[Updated 24th June 2020] Important Announcement: We do NOT recommend playing at anymore, based on our player reviews. The following three operators are proven to be highly safe & trusted: 22Bet, Betwinner and 888Sport.

The company began as a sports betting company and then made the transition to casino games and poker, while being equally successful in all these areas. In fact, they were so good at what they were doing that they caught the eye of one of the largest gambling operators in the world. In 2013, Ladbrokes acquired the company, to push their expansion into overdrive, as the UK gaming giant has big plans for Australia.

Even though Sports is focused mostly on customers from Australia and New Zealand, they tried to expand beyond borders and become an international operator. That’s why their campaigns are not aimed exclusively at local sports, but also cover the most popular competitions worldwide. The selection of sports has been expanded greatly since Ladbrokes took over.

Sports betting at markets Sports has a fast loading website that looks polished and features just enough banners as to keep players informed without becoming crowded. The intuitive interface makes it easy for beginners to set up an account and this is automatically converted into a real money one when they make the first deposit. On the right side of the page, they catch a glance at the betting slip, but also the odds and markets

This is a slightly different approach from what the vast majority of sportsbooks are currently running on, but it has certain advantages. For example, players can navigate from one sport to the other without even reloading the page, which makes the entire gaming experience more enjoyable. The odds and the markets are displayed in an intuitive manner, with all the primary markets appearing below the selected sports.

By dynamically displaying information in the left column, players will have an easier time checking out the list of markets. The same ease-of-use applies to the betting slip and even when adding several events for the sake of boosting odds, players don’t compromise on the rapid navigation. The odds are calculated automatically and all possible combinations are displayed, with players only having to select the stakes.

Another perk of using Sports for betting purposes is that they have introduced a brand-new feature which goes by the name of Quick Bet. The name says it all at its purpose is to enable punters to place their wagers much faster, with just three clicks being necessary. Those who have been around for a longer time might dismiss this feature as nothing more than a gimmick, but beginners will surely love it.

The bookmaker margin revolves around 4.8%, which is nothing to shout for, but still significantly better than the average of 5.1%. Among Australian gaming operators, this one has some of the lowest house edges. Another interesting thing is that this percentage stays virtually the same regardless of what type of sports they bet on, so players don’t have to make compromises for the sake of better odds. Sports did a fine job at introducing games popular outside Australian borders, but they are still mainly focused on the local market. For example football and rugby enthusiasts will be happy to discover a total of 47 markets for NRL games and a massive 142 markets for most of the AFL matches. It is hard to find a bookmaker offering better odds or a more comprehensive selection of games if you are hell-bent on betting mostly on Australian sports.

Beyond borders, soccer and tennis are by far the best covered sports, with hundreds of leagues and tournaments from all over the world. A decent selection of cycling, surfing, motor racing, boxing and snooker is available and since 2013, the horse and greyhound racing events grew exponentially. There is surely a link between the acquisition by Ladbrokes and the search in events, with fans of the genre being in for a pleasant surprise if they haven’t played here in a while.

The flagship competitions are the ones that are extensively covered, but every day races are not neglected and players can choose between Win, Place, Quinella, Exacta, Trifecta and Quadrella wagers. Some of these races are broadcasted live by Australian television networks, so players enjoy the best of both worlds if they bet locally. On the other hand, due to the restictive Interactive Gambling Act, Australians are prohibited from betting in real-time.

This comes as an unpleasant surprise and has a deterring effect on many prospective customers, but luckily there are ways to evade legislation. Sports enables customers to place wagers in real-time over the phone if they reside in Australia, while foreigners don’t have to worry about these obstacles. Overall, the live betting module is pretty good without being spectacular, but this can be explained by the fact that the bookmaker didn’t invest a lot in it, since Australian players were excluded.
